Release and Renew
Spring is around the corner and this time of year marks new beginnings, birth, hope, and renewal.
Before you can embrace new possibilities, it’s essential to release old thought patterns and unneeded emotions weighing you down. Overtime, we all have mental, emotional and physical garage to throw away.
The more and more weighted down we become with our garbage, we become dull, depressed, overly stressed, anxious, tired, anti-social, doubtful, stagnant, immobile, indecisive, and sad. Whew, I’m tired just thinking about it.
The good news, you can do something about it and I’m going to share my favorite ways to remove the gunky, unwanted residue we often don’t realize we are carrying around like a pack mule.
It’s time to shine and rejuvenate!
Committing to writing in a journal for fifteen minutes everyday is not only transformative, it allows you to develop a greater awareness about yourself and interactions you encounter daily.
If you don’t know what to write about, that’s ok, just start moving a pen or pencil over paper and see what comes out.
Seeing your thoughts and emotions reflected back to you from the page allows you to choose what you want to think and feel.
It is estimated that it takes 3–6 months for a new behavior to become a habit. Creating new thought patterns by journaling may take some time, but it literally rewires neural pathways in your brain.
What emotion/s no longer serve you or hold you back from being your most true and amazing self? For me, it’s worry and guilt.
During a difficult time, my level of worry hit a new threshold of inability to function. It ultimately forced me to look at how much this emotion was impacting me and those around me. I realized my worry was an automatic reaction triggered form my dad’s decline into dementia and ultimately his death.
My worrying was creating negative energy. I paid attention to my worry and the deep abyss of guilt underneath it spanning back to my thoughts of failing my dad.
This is not an instant process but I made a commitment to become aware of whenever worry and guilt crept into my mind and body. I instantly felt relief when I gave myself permission to release my emotional berating.
Write down a list of all the negative thoughts you tell yourself. Replace each negative statement with a positive affirmation in its place. Be sure to write affirmations in the present tense and affirm what you want, not what you don’t want. The present tense helps to bring this new belief into your reality.
Daily affirmations are to the mind what exercise is to the body. Use this daily exercise to transform your fears and doubts with confidence and certainty.
Now pick a favorite affirmation as a mantra that you periodically say to yourself throughout the day. These empowering mantras have profound effects on the conscious and unconscious mind.
Cut the Cords
Ah, I love cord cutting. It’s simple and easy.
When we experience a strong emotion that lasts 15 minutes or more, we become attached to that experience and we become corded to the emotional attachment. We are also emotionally corded to the major relationships in our life including our parents, partners, children, co-workers, friends, etc. These relationships may be positive or negative.
Here’s an easy visualization to help to cut these emotional attachments.
My favorite location to cut cords is in the bath because water is a natural energy cleanser and when you add epsom salt, minerals, such as magnesium and sulfate, draw out impurities in the body.
While soaking for 15-20 minutes imagine strands of rope connected to your body and then visualize these energetic cords being cut, broken, or released by white healing light. Adding your own creative spin to this visualization is encourage.
Clear the Body
Drinking water is one of the best body detoxes you can give yourself. Water flushes out toxins and waste and transports nutrients to where they are needed.
Most of us walk around chronically dehydrated and don’t feel thirsty because our bodies have adapted and shut off our thirst mechanism. Have you ever noticed when you start drinking more water, your automatic thirst response turns back on?
When you want to flush out toxins, drink a gallon of water a day for 2 weeks. This sounds like a lot but it’s easier than you think and just watch your energy improve. I drink two pints or one 32 oz. bottle of water in the morning, lunch time, afternoon, and early evening.
Sport drinks are loaded with sugar and high blood sugar can actually lead to dehydration. Make your own electrolyte drink with water, Himalayan sea salt loaded with essential minerals, and lemon. In a water bottle add ingredient amounts to taste.
I also add chlorophyll tablets to my smoothies for a daily body detox and cleanse. Chlorophyll can be found in all green plants and increases natural body enzymes that remove toxins from our liver.
My favorite brand is Sunfood Broken Cell Wall Chlorella Tablets, the broken cell wall assures added absorption. For daily detox, just pop 20 tablets down with water or blend them in your favorite smoothie.
Legs Up the Wall
This inverted yoga pose is a sweet release and purifies the energy in the body. It brings relief to the legs, feet, spine, and nervous system. Let your mental and physical heaviness melt away.
Lay on the floor with your arms outstretched and extend both of your parallel legs up the wall. Use a bolster for back support if needed.
