Being able to look after your mind and body are important, particularly during stressful times. Practising yoga is a good way to cope with your feelings of stress, anxiety and tension. It can also help you deal with chronic pain, promote better quality sleep and improve your flexibility and balance. As summer is gradually approaching why not combine your  yoga regime with an outdoor setting to boost the effectiveness you can feel even more.

It Is Free and Available When You Need It

A positive about exercising outdoors to begin with is that you do not need to worry about paying for a monthly membership like you would at a gym, so you can venture outdoors as often as you like and stay for as long as you want. If you suffer from any allergies like hay fever or are sensitive to any outdoor plants then it is probably best to see an allergy doctor before you start exercising in a park or garden, just in case you need to take any medicine beforehand to prevent any allergic reactions.

Provides a Different Setting

It can get monotonous using the same room at home, particularly if you do not have much space anyway or are visiting the same indoor gym space. When you go outdoors, each time you can sit and practise your yoga exercises in a different location which makes it much more interesting.

The Calming Effects of an Outdoor Setting

Being able to exercise is good for both your mind and body. This can also be applied to yoga exercises as it is a good way to gently stretch your body into different poses and helps you focus on meditating and controlling your breathing techniques. This can then help you to slowly relax and reduce any feeling of stress that you may be feeling. So having the correct surroundings too can make all the difference in helping you to feel more relaxed.

A study published in Environmental Science & Technology looked at how exercising outdoors could have positive effects on our mental wellbeing by reducing feelings of tension, depression and anxiety. There was also an increase in the level of productivity and sense of positive achievement by exercising in this sort of environment. So not only is it relaxing but it can also be extremely beneficial.

Feel Closer to Nature

When you are surrounded by trees and greenery it helps create a sense of calm and tranquility as you sit there focusing on your breathing techniques for each yoga pose. You are able to hear the rustling of the tree leaves and the gentle sounds of birds calling out to each other in the distance. By closing your eyes and just taking in the surroundings around you enables you to feel closer to nature and appreciate all its natural beauty.
