Keeping Your Home Healthy Throughout The Pandemic
Although a lot of people have been letting their standards slip, it’s important to remember that we are still very much in the middle of the corona pandemic, with lockdowns always potentially on the horizon until it’s entirely gone, if that ever happens. To that end, your home should be your healthy haven, clear of the risks of the outside world. Here are a few upgrades you can use to help make that a reality.
Keep your airflow going
One of the most important things for the health of any space is to make sure that effective airflow is kept up. You don’t want any potentially harmful particulates, whether they’re bacteria, viruses, or allergens, to be hanging around in the air for long. For that reason, make sure that you invest in servicing your HVAC systems so that the airflow is kept clean and effective throughout the entirety of the home.
Ensure your boundary stays secure
As well as improving the airflow in your home as mentioned above, you want to make sure that you control how easily the air from outside the home can make it indoors. Your ventilation system has filters to control the cleanliness of the air that makes it inside, but your windows might not. Older windows or those that are less secure can let the air from the outdoors in much more easily, but the best impact windows are built solid to prevent air gaps from opening up. This way, you have a lot more control over air quality in the house. Of course, you want to open your windows, but it’s better to be able to keep them effectively sealed, too.
Wipe down on a more regular basis
A lot of us are letting more people visit our homes, nowadays, after the worst of the lockdowns. You can’t guarantee that every person who comes into your home isn’t contaminated, nor can you say the same for mail or deliveries that come in. For that reason, you should be willing to spend more time cleaning the home and wiping down surfaces more often. A simple mixture of water, lemon juice, and vinegar is a great disinfectant for smooth surfaces.
Clean your clothes more effectively, too
Common sense dictates that any time you step outside, you’re more likely to get potentially harmful particulates on your clothes. You don’t need to treat them as if they’re hazardous materials as soon as you get inside the door, but you should be less inclined to wear the same jacket or jeans two days in a row if you have worn them outside. Doing laundry a little more often isn’t going to be much of a cost to keep your chances of catching COVID lower, after all.
Aside from helping to prevent the spread of corona inside the home, the above tips are going to result in a healthier home, in general, making it less likely for those indoors to get sick in general, but can be especially effective for those with allergies or respiratory issues.
