Joy Of The Infinite - A Practice With Jai Dev Singh

Joy Of The Infinite - A Practice With Jai Dev Singh

“Without a meditative mind, life can be a drag.” - Jai Dev Singh

By Autumn Feldmeier

I came to the Jai Dev Singh Joy of the Infinite workshop looking for something beyond the typical vinyasa class. Miami is a busy city, a cultural hub with over 80 languages spoken, and is the 7th largest city in the U.S. The city of Miami are wild and bustling.

It was within this mayhem that I found the gorgeous space where Jai Dev Singh's workshop was being held - Sacred Space Miami. I entered into a lush courtyard, that led me to a peaceful, white event space where Jai Dev Singh sat surrounded by white roses, in front of a huge mandala. While Jai looks like an ancient cleric you'd expect to see sitting at the top of a mountain, he's actually super practical and accessible.

To give you a little background on Jai, he currently lives in Northern California, and as a child he was a 'Jew growing up in the South.' He is a Clinical Ayurvedic Specialist and previously, the Clinical Director at the CA College of Ayurveda. Jai founded the Life Force Academy - The Ultimate Home Kundalini Yoga Experience. He is married to the beautiful Simrit and they are parents of a teenager.

Jai started the workshop, saying “consciousness IS energy and can't be created or destroyed, only transformed.” We then began some kundalini breath exercises. The series of breath work exercises Jai took us through were meant to purify us from the inside out. Brighten us on from the inside out and create a "Radiant Body” (like a martial artist but instead of shattering bricks, shattering our own obstructions).

He advised us to “keep it real,” because on the spiritual path it's easy to develop facades. Sometimes that 'fluffiness,’ can be a lack of realness. When you let go of the energy you are using to hold onto a facade, you can channel that energy and turn the bitterness of your life into sweetness. We learned that the kundalini yoga practice opens up the nadis and tunes you like an instrument to be in concert with the energy of life.

One of the best lessons I learned at this workshop, was that the subtle body (that thin sheath that carries the soul) becomes STRONGER as we age. So, while our material beauty may fade as we age, it's the subtle body that shines through. And through consistency of a kundalini yoga practice, we can make that Radiant Body keep shining bright. Once the kundalini practice is part of our daily routine, we can start to stabilize a heightened flow of prana. And when you amplify the qualities of the subtle body you become more connected to what I AM vs what I THINK I am.

Jai admits, “Kundalini can be difficult because it expands your awareness and, ignorance equals comfort. But true bliss is not impacted by pleasure or pain and bliss is what we are wired for.”
