Bay Area Studio Highlight: Satori.

Bay Area Studio Highlight: Satori.

Studio name: Satori Yoga Studio

Location/neighborhood: Downtown, Financial District, Union Square.

Parking/closest public transportation: Montgomery Bart/Muni Station, all buses that run down Market Street.

Inspiration behind the studio: Over 15 years ago the owner, Andrea Stern, was working in Corporate Human Resources when she felt a call to help employees on a deeper, on a more meaningful level. After much thought, research and consideration and after feeling the benefits of a midday yoga session, she decided to open a yoga studio catering specifically to the needs of urban professionals in the heart of San Francisco’s Financial District. In 2004 Satori Yoga Studio opened its doors and welcomed the stressed out, worker-bees looking for just a glimpse of enlightenment (which is by the way, the definition of Satori)

Studio Mission: To give students an opportunity to look within, refocus, and regain a sometimes lost sense of perspective. Satori is devoted to helping urban professionals relax, unwind, and move in a soothing and conveniently located environment.

Style of yoga classes taught: Vinyasa Flow, Candlelight Vinyasa, Power Flow, Hatha, Restorative, Yin Yoga, Prenatal Yoga, Therapeutic Vinyasa, Alignment Vinyasa, plus daily meditation and other classes that support the yoga practice and our bodies like pilates. They also offer hybrid classes like Flow & Restore, Core & Restore, Bhakti Flow & Yin and more! They are always evolving to meet the growing needs of their students and the community.

Meditation classes: Yes! Daily in the mornings, at lunch and in the evening. Plus a workshop style meditation class that is one on one!

Special events or workshops: Yes! Satori offers unique events like Urban Yogi retreat days with extended classes and self care offerings, plus immersive class series offerings and beyond.

What kind of students resonate with Satori? Satori resonates with yogis who work or live downtown and are looking for that oasis to come to for movement, mindfulness and breath during their day. They also have a lot of out of town students who are visiting San Francisco and are looking for a nice studio to take yoga classes at near their hotel.

What is your favorite quote? "“Satori is a glimpse or the road to enlightenment. Every next level of your life will demand a different version of you.”
